The new siding finally arrived! We decided to go with Royal Building’s Royal Woodland Heritage Blue Seamless Siding. We thought it had the classic look we wanted (especially with the extended lap). We didn’t want the maintenance headache of clapboard or other traditional materials, so, vinyl it was.
A whole lot of it was shipped over and dumped unceremoniously into the backyard.
And as you can see it complimented my meathook nicely.
So this picture can give you the best idea of WHY we decided to do the siding first. Look above the front porch, center of the house. See the house frame on the outside on the right? That’s a problem. The sheathing of the house was on the INSIDE of the house, inside of the frame. At the midpoint of the house (going left), it’s suddenly on the OUTSIDE! The entire house did this, both floors. Remember the “log cabin” look from the first room demo post? Yeah, that was it.
Well, nothing 40 sheets of plywood can’t fix, right?
And so on!
The entire house was not only Tyvek wrapped but also Progressive Foam Fullback Siding Insulation. See as how the house had exactly zero insulation we thought we’d at least add something, and the cost difference was negligible overall.
Almost there…
Perfect!
Now the side and some finishing touches…
Hey where’d that side porch come from you’re asking? Read up on it in my side porch replacement post!
Lovely dumpster juxtaposition.
This is my favorite pic I’ve taken of the house, taken later in the fall (I’m back dating some of these posts)
And then some snow for good measure. The front porch needs a railing but otherwise we’re good! We love it!
